How Does Baking Soda For Heartburn Work
In order to digest food, your stomach produces strong, very corrosive acid with low pH, known as hydrochloric acid. This acid causes the burning sensation in your chest. The trick is to neutralize some of the acid by consuming a base, which in this case is our favorite: baking soda. It will bring up the pH of the liquid in your stomach, reduce corrosiveness, and thus alleviate the burning sensation. It is best used as relief from occasional heartburn, just as any antacids. However, if your heartburn becomes chronicle, you need to change your lifestyle, and especially your food habits. Fried and fatty foods, dairy products, alcohol and cigarettes are not going to help. If things get serious, visit your physician without much hesitation.

Baking Soda For Cancer
There has been some limited research into the effects that baking soda may have on cancer cells and tumors in the body. The basis of the argument is that cancerous cells thrive in an acidic environment and that baking soda can help to inhibit and destroy these malignant cells.
One study has shown that sodium bicarbonate can inhibit the spread of various cancer tumors. The study provided evidence that low pH in cancer cells can increase the chance of tumors spreading. By increasing the pH level of tumors, scientists were able to inhibit the spread of malignant cancer cells.11
Further research is required to provide evidence of the effectiveness of baking soda in cancer treatments.

The sky is blue, racecar spelled backwards is still racecar, and in most cases heartburn is caused by low stomach acid, not high. Yes, seriously. After testing thousands of heartburn patients at his Tahoma Clinic, Jonathan Wright, M.D., concluded that excess stomach acid is not the problem in over 90% of cases.
In this article I covered what he say is the most common cause of heartburn, plus how acid blocking medications such as proton pump inhibitors can:
- Cause nutritional deficiencies
- And even increase our risk of certain diseases.
Fortunately, according to Dr. Wright:
In cases of mild to moderate heartburn, acid indigestion, bloating, and gas, actual testing for stomach acid production at Tahoma Clinic shows that hypochlorhydria occurs in over 90 percent of thousands tested since 1976. In these cases, a natural strategy is almost always successful.
As always, I want to mention that none of these statements have been evaluated by the FDA, this article is not medical advice, and it is not meant to diagnose or treat any condition. Im just a former heartburn sufferer passing along information Ive found helpful from respected physicians, clinical studies conducted by places like Johns Hopkins University, and articles from Scientific American and the Mayo Clinic.

- When baking soda triggers the chemical reaction in the stomach, carbon dioxide is released, opening the lower esophageal sphincter, which relieves the pressure from bloating and enables burping. But, opening this lower esophageal sphincter can also allow the contents of your stomach to reflux up into the esophagus.

Had I Known About This Remedy Before I Would Not Have Received The Dire News That Day
But with what I knew then, I couldnt have done much differently!
Like most people suffering heartburn, I was loading up on proton pump inhibitors , medications thinking they were safe.
Well, they are not.
According to a study from Washington University in St. Louis, PPI drugs increase your risk of dying within a year by a terrifying 50% .
Another study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association proved that PPI pills drastically increase your risk of stroke.
And, in a new study from the University of Hong Kong and University College London published in the peer-reviewed journal Gut , these same drugs were found to double your risk of stomach cancer.
Maybe worst of all: They also double your risk of kidney disease.
Hey, I can live with stomach ulcers, but I cant live without my kidneys or stomach.
Other heartburn medications, such as antacids and H2 blockers , may or may not be a little bit safer. However, numerous studies have also found a row of life-threatening side effects from these drugs.

A final piece of advice I would offer if you are suffering from regular heartburn is too simply eat smaller meals. The more you fill up your stomach the more pressure it is under due to being overloaded and the more likely it will reflux acid back up and give you heartburn. Also, if you suffer from nighttime heartburn not eating food 3 hours before bedtime is a good idea.
Can Baking Soda Cause Diarrhea
Most households keep baking soda in stock because it can be used in a variety of ways in the kitchen, bathroom, cooking and baking, for health, in the car, for pets, and other miscellaneous uses.
The secret to the usefulness of baking soda lies in two letters: pH. It means power of hydrogen which was intended to create either an acid or a base . Since baking soda is alkaline, mixing it with acid alters the pH level. This is what makes baking soda so effective in soothing an upset stomach or neutralizing a bad smell.
With regards to the digestive tract, baking soda is dissolved in water to act as an antacid. According to the Mayo Clinic, baking soda can be used to help relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and even as a treatment for stomach ulcers. It can also be used to increase the alkalinity of urine.
However, The dangers of baking soda primarily come from overdosing on it. Baking soda can be poisonous when taken in large amounts. Too much sodium can cause side effects such as diarrhea and vomiting, and in some instances, more serious complications like kidney failure and seizures.
According to a study published in the journal Plos One in August 2017, the sodium from baking soda provides additional oxygen to the muscles and may also increase blood volume. However, it also discovered that the spurt in performance provided by baking soda does not last long. In fact, the side effects may well counteract any benefit provided by baking soda.

Drinking Baking Soda And Water For Heartburn
Drinking baking soda and water is an excellent natural remedy to quickly relieve a heartburn .
Dr. Melinda Ratini on WebMD says that heartburn is caused when stomach acid leaks back up into the esophagus causing a burning sensation. The discomfort of heartburn is usually felt in the upper abdomen area.4 In order to treat the burning feeling associated with heartburn, doctors usually recommend taking antacids to neutralize stomach acid.
Baking soda is a natural antacid and studies show that sodium bicarbonate can help to relieve heartburn and indigestion. This is because baking soda effectively and quickly reduces the burning effect that stomach acid causes.5
To use baking soda to quickly put an end to heartburn, mix 1/2 tsp. baking soda in an 8 oz. glass of cold water and mix until fully dissolved. Drink the home remedy as needed, but make sure not to consume more than 6 half-teaspoon dosages in a 24-hour period.
