I TRIED CELERY JUICE TO CURE MY CHRONIC ILLNESS & THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED

This Anti-Reflux Energizing & Healing Morning Smoothie recipe takes only 5 minutes to make, is super tasty, my son loves it, and most importantly, it will bring lots of health benefits. Along with the foods discussed above, papaya, pineapple, apples, dragon fruit, cherries, and grated cauliflower are also great ingredients for this type of smoothie.

I highly recommend a good high speed blender like the one I use, the Vitamix Professional. It is really the best investment I ever made. I use it every single day! Here are a few of my top product recommendations:

Please remember that every case is unique, and the severity of reflux varies. Im sharing my experience with the natural remedies, and how they keep my son reflux-free. He suffered from severe reflux the first 2.5 years of his life. Even though he no longer shows signs of reflux, we still monitor his development closely, and see the gastroenterologist once a year.

Taking medications is sometimes necessary, but if you can find natural alternatives, then you can avoid the long-term side effects. There is some trial and error when using natural remedies to find what works best to treat your acid reflux, but in the long run, its well worth it.

Structural Physiology And Aetiology

Heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux all commonly occur in pregnancy, usually in the latter stage, although they may also accompany first trimester nausea and vomiting. Symptoms are largely due to the effects of progesterone, which relaxes the cardiac sphincter of the stomach, causing acid reflux. It is worse in women with multiple pregnancy and when the fetal presentation is breech, due to upwards pressure on the diaphrgam. Some mothers may experience a burning sensation at varying levels in the oesophagus, which will usually correspond to tender areas on the oesophagus reflex zones of the feet, relative to the level of heartburn. Mechanical distress also occurs at the junction of the oesophagus, cardiac sphincter and stomach due to changes within the abdominal/uterine cavities, the spinal kyphosis/lordosis and the inter-relationship between the shoulder and pelvic girdles. Heartburn is also often exacerbated by the weight of the breasts, particularly if the mother wears an ill-fitting brassiere, or if her general posture is poor with an accentuated thoracic kyphosis.

Symptoms Of Foregut Disease

Heartburn, regurgitation, dysphagia, and chest pain are the most prevalent symptoms of esophageal disease.2 A myriad of other foregut symptoms may or may not be present, including dyspepsia, anorexia, epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, and early satiety. These symptoms are considerably more nonspecific and may indicate concomitant gastric or intestinal disease. Further complicating the evaluation of patients with esophageal disease, a significant proportion may have âextraesophagealâ largely respiratory symptoms including cough, hoarseness, asthma, frequent throat clearing, sore throat, and recurrent pneumonia. These can be among the most difficult symptoms to confirm an association with esophageal disorders.

Heartburn is generally defined as a substernal burning-type discomfort beginning in the epigastrium and radiating upward. It is often aggravated by meals, spicy or fatty foods, chocolate, alcohol, and coffee and can be worse in the supine position. It is commonly, although not universally, relieved by antacid or antisecretory medications. Epidemiologic studies show that heartburn occurs monthly in as many as 40% to 50% of the Western population. The occurrence of heartburn at night and its effect on quality of life were highlighted by a Gallup poll conducted by the American Gastroenterologic Society .3

Foods That Can Cause Heartburn

12 Best Home Remedies For Indigestion

Heartburn affects more than 60 million Americans every month .

It is best described as a painful, burning sensation that occurs in the lower chest area.

Heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux, a condition where stomach acid escapes into the esophagus, the tube that delivers food and beverages to your stomach.

Normally, stomach acid cannot escape into the esophagus because of a barrier called the lower esophageal sphincter. This is a ring-like muscle that naturally stays closed, and normally only opens when you swallow or belch .

However, in people with acid reflux, this muscle is often weakened. This is one reason why people with acid reflux experience heartburn .

Diet plays an important role in heartburn. Many foods can relax the lower esophageal sphincter, which allows food to escape into the esophagus and cause heartburn.

Here are 11 foods that can cause heartburn.

What do these foods have in common? They are all high in fat, according to Chutkan. “These foods may not get as much press as acidic foods when it comes to heartburn,” she says, “but they can be major triggers.” Here’s why: Fat slows down the emptying of the stomach, so there is more opportunity for a big distended stomach — which increases pressure on the esophageal sphincter — to make heartburn more likely.

Chutkan says that doesn’t mean you can never have those foods again. “Don’t have a cheese plate at the end of a meal,” she suggests. “Instead, eat it early in the day when you are not already full.” Remember, a serving of cheese is roughly the size of two dice.

Gerd Diet: Foods That Help With Acid Reflux

Getting a case of acid reflux once in a while isn’t unusual, but some people suffer from burning discomfort, bloating and belching almost every time they eat. About 20% of the population has gastroesophageal reflux disease , a chronic acid reflux condition that’s diagnosed by a doctor.

Normally, the esophageal sphincter protects the esophagus from stomach acid. However, if the sphincter relaxes, food can push upward through the loosened opening and cause acid reflux.

“Diet plays a major role in controlling acid reflux symptoms and is the first line of therapy used for people with GERD,” says Ekta Gupta, M.B.B.S., M.D., gastroenterologist with Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Avoid Smoking And Smoke Exposure

Smoking leads to more heartburn in several ways:

  • Smoking reduces saliva production, giving you less of this naturally alkaline fluid to help neutralize stomach acid.
  • Smoking can weaken and relax the LES.
  • Smokers are prone to coughing, which increases abdominal pressure and can lead to heartburn.

Exposure to secondhand smoke is also linked to heartburn, so you should avoid places where people smoke.

The Acidity Of Oranges

The acidity and alkalinity of any substance is measured by that substance’s pH value. All values above 7.1 indicate that a substance is alkaline and those with a value below 6.9 are acidic. Substances like water typically have neutral pH of 7, meaning that they aren’t acidic or alkaline. On average, oranges have a pH of between 3 and just above 4. Oranges grown in California are slightly more acidic than oranges grown in Florida. The same acidity applies to juice from oranges as well, which is also acidic. In general, this is considered mildly acidic and less acidic than substances like vinegar. Note that most fruits in general are acidic, especially citrus fruits. Some citrus fruits, like lemons or limes, are more acidic than others.

Chronic acid reflux is likely to inspire any number of lifestyle changes, and choice of beverages may be one of them. Many “go-to” drinks like coffee and sodas are likely to aggravate heartburn and other symptoms of acid reflux, which in its chronic form is known as gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. If you’re used to reaching for soft drinks, caffeinated beverages or certain fruit juices when you’re thirsty, consider switching to alternatives that may actually relieve symptoms rather than trigger them.

Treating Reflux In A Natural Way

I am a huge believer in natural medicine. When I started giving my son natural remedies for reflux, they really worked! Aloe Vera, ginger, probiotics, and coconut oil, are my favorite natural reflux remedies. A while ago I posted about the properties and benefits of all of these in my 5 Natural Remedies For Acid Reflux article. You can learn in full detail how each one helps.

Please remember, though, that every person is different and what works for my son might not work for other kids. These are the natural remedies that really made a difference for him. And again, it goes without saying that we check with his pediatrician and GI specialist when we make a decision to treat a condition the natural way.

Do High Fat Foods Cause Heartburn

Are pizza, fried chicken, burgers, and fries the foods most likely to trigger heartburn? Certainly, fatty and deep-fried food is likely to be harder to digest and will trigger more stomach acid, which can lead to heartburn4. The confusing thing though, is that many highly nutritious foods including nuts, cheese and avocados are also high in fat and can similarly trigger symptoms5. Heartburn is triggered because high-fat foods relax the lower esophageal sphincter muscle, which acts as a barrier between your food pipe and your stomach. If this muscle relaxes, stomach acid can escape from the stomach to the esophagus causing acid reflux. Making small changes to your diet, such as reducing portion size, can significantly help reduce your risk of heartburn.

A Primer On Acid Reflux

There is a muscle at the opening of your stomach called the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES. This muscle opens and closes to allow food to pass through when you eat. Unfortunately, sometimes the LES may stay open, letting stomach acid go back up through your esophagus, causing acid reflux.

In most cases, acid reflux is a minor issue that can happen on occasion. However, if you experience symptoms more than twice a week, you likely have GERD. In that case, you’ll need to treat the disease so that you can protect your esophagus and LES from long-term damage.

Coconut And Banana Smoothie

How to enjoy Orange Juice – Grape – Apple – Without Stomach Upset Heartburn Acid Reflex

Almond milk, bananas, and coconuts are all excellent choices for relieving acid reflux. Coconuts are high in fiber and water, and bananas and almonds are highly alkaline. So, this smoothie is sure to keep your stomach calm and relaxed.

  • 1 ½ cups fresh coconut water
  • 1 cup diced coconut
  • ¼ cup almond milk

Blend everything together. As a garnish, you can add some shaved coconut or almond pieces on top. Doing this will add a slight crunch. Rolled oats or granola also work well with this recipe.

  • Lettuce, celery and sweet peppers These mild green veggies are easy on the stomach and wont cause painful gas.
  • Brown rice This complex carbohydrate is mild and filling just dont serve it fried.
  • Melons Watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew are all low-acid fruits that are among the best foods for acid reflux.

  • Fennel This low-acid crunchy vegetable has a mild licorice flavor and a natural soothing effect.
  • Ginger Steep caffeine-free ginger tea or chew on low-sugar dried ginger for a natural tummy tamer.

Why Use Coconut Water As Your Smoothie Base

I prefer to use coconut water over all other liquids as a base in my sons smoothie. Many studies suggest that it helps with digestion and reflux. Plus, using it as the liquid base not only adds health benefits, it will also act as a natural sweetener for the smoothies, so you wont have to add any refined sugars.

I usually like to buy Harmless coconut water because it is the purest one in the market. It is really the next best thing to drinking from a coconut. Other less expensive options that I think are good are Zico and 365 Everyday Value from Whole Foods.

You can also alternate and use almond milk, kefir , and/or coconut milk for your smoothie liquid base. At home, coconut water is what my kids like best for their smoothies.

Dairy And Plant Milks

Best remedy for acid reflux

Anyone who’s been to the supermarket lately knows that milk doesn’t just mean cow’s milk anymore. Unless you’re lactose-intolerant or otherwise allergic, cow’s milk, which is alkaline, may be OK, but for some people it can also trigger allergies. Goat’s milk, however, is recommended over cow’s milk because it’s easier to digest. However, there may be better choices. Plant-based milks made from soy or almonds are not only safe, but when the final product has an alkaline composition, this may actually help neutralize acid lingering in the esophagus.
